Hi, I'm Timon and I've been working as a Junior Sales Marketer at OTTO since February 2024. I completed my Bachelor's degree in International Business in beautiful Groningen, NL, and then started an internship at Advertising Services in the Sales Strategy, Excellence & Research department. I am now a permanent member of the team and I am responsible for the digital sales of advertising solutions for our marketplace partners, among other things.
My day traditionally starts at 8:30 a.m. on our Otto Group Campus. If I can't make it into the office, I have the option of working flexibly from the mobile office.
At 8:30 a.m., I'm actually one of the early risers because, thanks to the flexible working hours, everyone in the team can decide for themselves when to start their working day. For me, the day starts with an oat milk cappuccino and a look at my calendar, my email inbox and my to-dos for the day.
In my role, I am responsible for digital sales at Advertising Services, but what exactly does that mean?
Together with the relevant interfaces and my colleagues, I plan cross-channel sales campaigns with which we not only want to convince our marketplace partners of our advertising solutions, but also lead them to success at OTTO. After all, our advertising solutions can significantly increase turnover and sales as well as boost reach and visibility.
A lot of work goes into a sales campaign, as it has to be planned, designed, implemented and, of course, evaluated. At OTTO, we plan Objectives & Key Results (OKRs), i.e. clearly defined target images, in three-month iterations so that I don't lose track of my other tasks that arise in day-to-day operations. This means I always have a good overview of what I have planned for each iteration.
This includes tasks such as optimizing our sales storyline in our sales documents, strategic marketing planning for important sales events such as new product launches and maintaining important routine marketing channels, such as our partner newsletter.
I am in close sparring with colleagues from various interfaces on a daily basis, which makes my work super varied. At OTTO, I have the opportunity to deepen these contacts even further, for example through work shadowing, which allows me to gain valuable insights into other departments and further improve my collaboration.
I'm a big fan of going out for lunch with my team. Whether it's a vegan currywurst in the sun at our Steel Runner, our own food truck on campus, or a delicious Asian curry in our campus canteen - the options are endless and there's something for every appetite.
Thanks to our open lunch culture, I also enjoy eating out with colleagues from other departments alongside my team to network and get to know new areas.
After the break, I will continue with my day-to-day business. In my field, it's important to have a high level of self-motivation, creativity, enthusiasm for retail media and the ability to work in a team. Many skills can only be acquired on the job. As we are a fast-growing area that is currently testing and implementing many ideas, there are always new helpful tools and dashboards that are reshaping everyday working life. In this environment, only the team that uses its knowledge in a targeted manner is successful.
My team does exactly that. Professional, committed and dynamic is how I would describe the way we work. We have a wide variety of internal and external interfaces that we deal with in line with our brand values. Fair, personal, inspiring.
My working day ends just as flexibly as it begins. As nice as I think it is to start early, finishing work late also has its advantages. Sometimes I leave at 3 p.m., but sometimes not until 7 p.m.
I like working at OTTO because I can identify with the corporate culture and actively support it. I am part of a team that works extremely well together and in which mutual respect and appreciation are very important. Our work aims to strengthen OTTO's position in the market and as a platform, which leads to diverse and exciting tasks. This motivates me every day anew!
