Our culture

Our culture

With us, colleagues feel and treat each other like friends.

Culture change and values: change is our status quo

We live in a world that is rapidly changing with technology as the driver. The behaviors that previously successfully solved problems no longer work. That's why we don't settle for the status quo but drive innovation and evolve our platform.

To actively shape our culture change, we have a blog for discussions on current topics, formats such as a "Fuck-Up Night" and "Brownsbag Session" on how to deal with our error culture, and the "Unplugged" employee event, where our board members talk about business development and our projects on a monthly basis.

Collaboration, agility and leadership

Collaboration is the key to our success. That's why, as a company, we want to continue to strengthen what already works well in our cooperation: openness, courage, and a focus on results, freedom, short decision paths, and even "controlled loss of control" from time to time.

We work in agile and cross-functional teams with agile project methods, often time-delayed, on otto.de, the product ranges, or our business. Exchanges, lively discussions and joint brainstorming make a significant contribution to success in projects. Once we have completed a major go-live, we discuss it in bar camps. At events such as design thinking workshops and innovation days, we develop new ideas and make otto.de even better.

New Work is not a buzzword for us. Rather, it describes our current corporate development and forms the common understanding of our future working methods and principles.

Leadership and cultural principles of action shape our corporate culture. Therefore, we have consistently developed our understanding of leadership and promote new forms of cooperation between employees and managers - to enable employees to think and act entrepreneurially. For us, leadership also means working in collaborating with others, managing talent and giving open feedback. We attach great importance to value orientation and mutual appreciation.

Leading Principles for a common mission statement

At OTTO, we want to constantly evolve. For this very purpose, we have developed our ten guiding principles principles, which serve as a guide for our colleagues guide and provide orientation in terms of attitude and behavior. behavior. In particular, it is about people-oriented interaction at eye level and the topics of customer centricity, performance orientation and assumption of responsibility.

Leading" does not refer exclusively to "leadership" in the sense of classic management. Rather, it is about self-leadership and personal responsibility in terms of attitude and action. In other words, the Leading Principles are principles that guide all employees at OTTO in terms of attitude and action and support us in achieving our corporate goals.

Diversity & Inclusion

For OTTO, diversity is an integral, indispensable part of our modern society and is part of the foundation of our corporate culture. By diversity, inclusion and variety, we mean the equal worth of all people - regardless of gender, sexual identity, nationality, ethnic origin, religion or worldview, disability or age.

We see that national egoism and global populism are endangering this diversity as we know it. That's why we see it as part of our corporate mission to actively promote, preserve and grow diversity and inclusion - together with our colleagues. We want to be a role model for diversity both in our company and in society as well as in Germany as a business location. Openness, respect and tolerance are the guiding values to which we are fully committed.

Our D&I Report gives you a structured insight into the D&I world at OTTO. You will learn more about implemented projects with relevant key figures and more about our D&I strategy at OTTO.

Equality for all

The compatibility of the job with different phases of life and individual interests is also firmly established. With targeted programs such as Eldercare or Eltern@Otto, a variety of flexible working models, and a technical infrastructure for mobile working, OTTO offers a comprehensive range of options for all phases of life. Because we are convinced: everyone benefits from equality - both in the working world and in partnerships and families.

Why we have a transidentity guide

First things first: a gender identity belongs in the workplace! Because it is closely interwoven with our personality and makes us who we are. Who can be honest with themselves and their team at work, without fear of exclusion and discrimination, is usually happier. The Transidentity Guide (german only) sensitizes us and gives all people at OTTO tips on how an inclusive working world can succeed.

Communities & networks

This is also evident in our networks such as PLAN F and the Fathers' Network. PLAN F, the FeMale network, is committed to equal opportunities at all levels so that women can develop their full potential. The offer of the Fathers' Network is aimed at all men at OTTO who want to exchange views on topics such as raising children, family, work-life balance and working time models. #experienced offers a lobby and advocacy for the age group 50+ and with MORE* we have a queer, Otto Group-wide network of LGBTIQ* colleagues.
