Gerhard has been working as Creative Lead for Apps and User Experience at OTTO for almost 10 years. His job is to adapt and improve the user experience for OTTO app users. In doing so, he is always confronted with new challenges. Creativity and curiosity help him to master them. But what exactly does creativity mean to him and how does he manage to never run out of ideas? That's what he has now revealed to us.
"The general vernacular often thinks that creativity is something musical. Creative people like to paint and draw or make music. That's not wrong at all, but I think that creativity is much more the curiosity to get to the bottom of a problem until I find the optimal solution. It's not for nothing that they say "Necessity is the mother of invention" and I think that describes it quite well. As soon as I have a problem or a need somewhere, I always start to want to solve it. And that's what being creative means to me."
"The lever for creativity is inspiration. If you go through life attentively, you can get inspiration at every turn. This can happen even through the smallest things in everyday life. For example, on my way to work on the train, I like to observe the people around me and see how they deal with the smallest difficulties. That can be super exciting! You can also gather a lot of inspiration from conversations with friends and discussions with colleagues. That's exactly why I think it's so important to be sensitive to this. Because that's the only way to see the added value they can bring to our lives."
In addition to creativity, there are other skills that are an integral part of our everyday working life and that we have recorded for you. In the second part of our series, Julia from Health Management gives you helpful tips on how to deal with stress and strengthen your resilience.
At OTTO, the personal development of our colleagues is very important to us. If you decide to join one of our diverse teams, you will find a variety of internal opportunities to train your creativity. The OTTO Academy, for example, offers you a wide range of exciting seminars, and the Masterplan learning platform also contains various learning paths on topics such as "Design Thinking" or "Collective Creativity".
