Bye-bye OTTO Campus, hello Team Workation!

Advancing the joint project through a change of location

Thanks to our newly introduced Workation, our colleagues can now easily work where others go on vacation. Our colleagues Angelina, Nils, Raffaela, Anika and Pascal from HR Marketing and Recruitment recently proved that this does not only work alone in Germany, but also as a team. Without further ado, they took the workation to the next level and realized their first Team Workation.

Together, the five of them went to the Center Parcs in Bispinger Heide, where they advanced their current project 'Young Tech-Talents' in a vacation village with an adventure pool. We talked to Angelina about her team's learnings and found out how the change of location affected their project progress and teamwork.

Hi Angi! So you and your project team went to Center Parcs in march?

"For our project trip, we were inspired by the Workation concept, which enables OTTO employees to work from abroad under certain conditions and for a limited time. So on one team day, we joked that we could also travel together to continue working on our project while being on the road. In the end, we decided to spend four days at the Center Parcs in Bispinger Heide, which is not far away. There we wanted to combine nature, efficient work and leisure time."

What did a typical day of your Team Workation look like?

"In the morning, each of us started the day at their own pace. While Nils was out for a walk, Raffaela prepared her fabulous breakfast for all of us. I usually put on the first coffee. With breakfast, we did a joint check-in: Who has appointments today that require quiet time and when? What topics do we want to work on today? When do we have joint work phases in the team? Do we have a joint lunch break and how do we organize it?

In the morning, we often participated remotely in appointments and used the time in the afternoon to talk about the status of our work and to advance the project. At the end of the day, we cooked together, had a drink or two, and talked privately a lot. We definitely went to bed later than at home, because we often spontaneously played a round of billiards or poker 😉."

Would you recommend the Team Workation to others?

"The peculiarity of our team is that in a regular working week we only spend 20% of our working time on the project 'Young Tech-Talents'. The rest of the time is spent by each project member in their regular job. This makes for fragmented work to some extent. Going on a Team Workation has allowed us to invest bundled time while strengthening our relationships with each other and working even better together as a team .

On our trip, we got to know each other, our skills, and our work habits in a different way. In our case, the change of location has also led to increased productivity. For example, I find it much easier to have an exchange about mutual expectations while walking through the park, rather than in the conference room or perhaps even remotely from home. So I can definitely recommend Team Workation if the tasks allow it. It was very good for us as a team - and for the project progress as well."

Our framework for your Team Workation

When you start with us, you can work for us on a mobile basis for up to 30 working days per calendar year from other European countries and a maximum of 10 working days per country. In Germany, workation is also possible as a team. The most important requirements for this are a stable Internet connection and, of course, a suitable working environment. This is the best way to combine work and vacation.

We're offering many more benefits for you.
