Seamless dealer functionality for effective collaboration
Nicola's overarching theme is the interdisciplinary development of dealer function IT products. In this role, she ensures optimal collaboration and acts as a bridge builder between the teams in five directorate areas, connecting people with each other. But what exactly does IT mean to Nicola and what fascinates her about it? We asked.
Nicola - your topic in 3 sentences!
"Together with two other colleagues, we are responsible for designing the framework for the interdisciplinary development of IT products for the dealer functions. Our goal is to support collaboration between the people responsible from two IT areas and the specialist departments and to bring overarching themes into the processing. In doing so, we are responsible for ensuring that the individual products work together seamlessly and provide an end-to-end experience."
Why is your topic important for OTTO?
"The multi-layered nature of tasks and processes requires multidisciplinary working as well as a deep understanding of the specific challenges faced by each individual. Even the most sophisticated organizational structure cannot guarantee that the people who need to work together are in the same organizational unit. That's why bridge builders* like me are needed to act at the interfaces and connect."
What has been your coolest IT project so far?
"This was our first major project that we designed using agile working methods. Together with two significant departments that had previously been reluctant to collaborate with each other, we defined and prioritized features, worked together in one room, and much more. Having previously worked in a highly regimented waterfall project culture, it was a fantastic experience to discover a new way of working together in software development."
What excites you most about your job?
"It is both possible and necessary for me to continuously learn and improve my flexibility. In doing so, I have the opportunity to actively shape and organize myself. The skills I have acquired in my previous professional career come into their own in my current role. In addition, I have the pleasure of working with many smart and personable people."
Where was your enthusiasm for IT first awakened?
"During my commercial training, I initially had to deal with many manual routine tasks. Creating long lists, adding up series of numbers and typing invoices were part of my daily routine. Then, when we put our first computer into operation, I was thrilled by how much easier it made my work and the possibilities this technology offered. A whole new world opened up for me."
What advice would you give to women who are interested in getting into IT?
"Take advantage of the diversity that the profession in IT offers you and see it as an opportunity to use and develop your individual talents! In IT, mathematical talent is not necessarily the decisive prerequisite. Rather, it's about analytical and strategic thinking. Working in IT often involves working with people and requires creative approaches to solving problems. It also gives you the opportunity to contribute different skills and develop in a dynamic environment."
