Combining work and sporty activities?
Sport - especially in a team - brings people together. At OTTO, our colleagues also have the opportunity to choose from over 30 company sports, from the areas of sport and culture, the one that best suits their interests and their everyday working life. We have taken a closer look at three of the most popular sports.
Sailing, e-sports or triathlon? Our range of company fitness could not be more diverse and the positive effects that company sport has on our everyday working life are just as varied. Among other things, it is the ideal way to grow as a team and face new challenges, while at the same time finding an ideal balance to desk work.

Sailing
As soon as it gets warmer here in the north, the first place you look for the people of Hamburg is where? Of course, on the water - or more precisely on the Alster! That's why water sports are an essential part of our company sports programme. With more than 200 members, our sailing team is the largest section and has been an integral part of company sports since 1989.
Besides organising internal regattas, OVSailing also takes part in various class and association regattas. What is also not neglected is the social framework. Regular arrival and departure parties are particularly popular with our colleagues from the sailing team, as is the mutual exchange of experiences at theme evenings.
The portfolio offers both beginners and advanced sailors a wide range of training and further education opportunities. Our volunteer sailing instructors are on hand to offer advice and support. To get an idea of the sport and the team in advance, interested colleagues are always welcome for a "trial sail"!

E-Sports
E-sports are not really sports at all? We often hear this prejudice, but it is not true. Because competitions in computer and video games not only train your own reaction speed and tactics, but also your ability to concentrate and work in a team. These are all skills that can also be useful in everyday work. This is precisely why we opened our own division in December 2021. Since then, e-sports has been one of our fastest-growing company sports and now boasts a proud 35 official members and over 180 in the communities.
In order to compete with other companies and e-sports organisations from all over Germany and put their skills to the test, our e-sports players regularly take part in tournaments. A tournament team usually consists of 5 core players, a coach and an analyst. They meet regularly for training sessions and develop their own game strategies that will carry them to victory in the next competition.
Most recently, one of our teams took part in the "PwC Gaming Masters" in 2022 - the leading corporate gaming and e-sports format. In addition to exciting car races and FIFA 22 matches, the event also gave them the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with professionals from the German tech and business industry. What is the team particularly proud of? Taking first place in Mario Kart!

"I have been interested in e-sports for a long time and was allowed to represent my university in the computer game League of Legends during my studies. The e-sports community at OTTO is a cool exchange platform for playing games together and networking, which brings colleagues from across the Group together. This has already led to several offline events between techies, trainees and students, which makes me particularly happy as the person responsible."

Triathlon
With 40 members - and rising - triathlon is also one of our most popular disciplines. The combination of swimming, cycling and running seems to be particularly popular with our colleagues. Due to its popularity, our team offers numerous training sessions and workshops with different focuses, such as core stabilisation, running or nutrition in preparation for and during competitions. In addition, a lot of value is placed on togetherness, which is why the team meets regularly at the Tri-Lunch.
A special highlight of our triathlon team was the participation in "The World's Biggest Tri - the biggest triathlon in the world" in July 2022. After our colleagues first crawled through the Binnenalster, they then swung onto their bikes and finally managed a remarkable sprint. This event is still unforgettable for our triathletes.

That's why I didn't hesitate for a moment when I was offered the role of division manager after my predecessor stepped down. But since the team takes on many organisational tasks themselves, it's also a very rewarding role."

Because the diverse interests of our colleagues are particularly close to our hearts, we attach great importance to ensuring that there is something for everyone in our company sports programme. In addition to sailing, e-sports and triathlon, we also offer yoga, volleyball and a theatre group.
