The final weeks of 2017 will go down in OTTO history. For this Christmas shopping season the online retailer has reported double-digit growth in revenues compared to 2016, with customers snapping up articles from the Multimedia, Home Appliances, and Sports assortments in particular.

OTTO saw overall revenue growth of 11 percent compared to the 2016 Christmas business period. This makes 2017 the company’s most successful Christmas business period ever.

Marc Opelt: 10,000 new products a week on average

“This great result gives us extra momentum to drive the ongoing development of our business model into a platform. We will open up further to external partners and brands in 2018, and this way continually offer our customers new and attractive products. Already today, otto.de is growing by 10,000 new articles a week and we will take this strong development with us into the new year”, says Marc Opelt, Member of the OTTO Management Board, Marketing, and Spokesman for the online retailer.

Besides increasing the number of products on offer (currently 2.4 million articles available at otto.de), the online retailer’s objective is also to raise the attractiveness and relevance of its different assortments – which has clearly pleased OTTO customers this Christmas already, with more frequent purchases in the Electronic & Digital and Fashion & Sport categories in particular. Alongside this development, products in the Home Appliances category (19 percent higher revenues compared to Christmas 2016), Multimedia goods (17 percent higher), and Sports articles (15 percent higher) were further major contributors to the historic result.
