OTTO's D&I Report: We fully support diversity
About the strategic orientation of Diversity & Inclusion at OTTO
Moin Daniel, why is there a need for a D&I team at OTTO?
DANIEL WIEGEMANN: We are committed to a diverse and respectful working environment in which discrimination is not tolerated and everyone can be authentic. There are numerous interactions and interdependencies in the issues surrounding D&I. To do justice to this, an organizational unit is needed that regularly sets communicative accents and develops concrete measures in the D&I context as well as working closely with diversity networks and departments. Therefore, the D&I core message is: "Diversity. Belong. Stand Behind.".
What have you been working on in the past weeks and months?
We've been working on a variety of issues over the past while - to name a few: Racism and intersectionality, trans identities, or balancing family and work. In all cases, the first step we take is to ask ourselves: What is OTTO already doing about this? Only then do we consider what our colleagues need and how we can best reach them. In this way, we analyze interdependencies, identify corresponding fields of action, and derive concrete measures for the individual diversity fields. This is also how our D&I Report came into being.
And what makes the D&I Report so special?
With the D&I Report, we provide all interested parties with a structured insight into the D&I world at OTTO. We combine information on implemented projects and activities of the current fiscal year with relevant key figures. We also explain our D&I strategy, which was approved by our divisional boards in the spring, and the associated focus dimensions in the D&I Report. The transparent summary is intended to describe the current situation and at the same time provide a starting point for future reports.
What do you expect from the D&I Report?
It should become clear that we are serious about D&I issues and that our commitment is honest. The D&I Report makes OTTO's activities visible and transparent for our colleagues and all interested parties and thus provides a good overview of the design of individual measures.
And where does the journey continue?
In the next step, we will host a best practice exchange format in 2023 together with the Group-wide D&I team of the Otto Group and a project team from the Group-wide community on diversity topics, in which interested companies as well as people from science and politics can participate. You can look forward to it!
