We live FutureWork
How we live FutureWork – an overview
Our hybrid work model
Activity Based Working is OTTO's principle. All employees are free to work from wherever they can be most effective. Depending on the type of task or activity, there are different places for this – on or off the Otto Campus. With the hybrid work model, we rely on modern technology and an unhindered connection of presence and remote work.
To enable teams to work effectively together, the choice of work locations, tools, and methods is regulated by the teams. With the Collaboration Sprint, self-determined commitments of collaboration are developed and agreed upon, which combination is best for their work content. The collaboration matrix provides assistance in classifying the work locations for the best possible performance of the work.
As a FutureWork team, we are sustainably changing thought patterns and behaviors in order to be well positioned for a future-oriented working world. In doing so, we always put our colleagues at the center!

The centerpiece: The Otto Group Campus
Our culture thrives on active interaction. The central place for professional encounters and networking is the Otto Campus in Hamburg. For Activity Based Working, the campus offers many other working options besides the classic desk: From the Social Space, the meeting room, or the project garage to the library, think tank, or hot desk – there is the right work environment for every working method.
How the proportions of mobile work and campus work are distributed is decided by individual coordination within the team. Because in practice, the requirements for a results-driven work organization are very different. To meet them, we provide clearly formulated guidelines within which the teams can act freely.
An office of the future
We live FutureWork and this is also reflected in our working environment. On the Otto Campus, we consistently rely on modern multi-space concepts, desk sharing, and working with Office 365. In the future, our new OTTO headquarters, which is currently under construction, will set further standards: More space for workshops, conferences, and teamwork, a modular construction method, and state-of-the-art conference technology such as ceiling microphones and all-around cameras will ensure optimal collaboration between mobile and on-site colleagues in the future. State-of-the-art Social Spaces offer opportunities for spontaneous exchange, social networking, and personal interaction.
FutureWork is for everyone
Already in 2017, a team of OTTO employees came together with the goal of exploring the work environments of tomorrow. What's special about it? The members come from different organizational units. An interdisciplinary team has since accompanied the transformation of the working world. Always in view: The development of a common understanding of future work methods – no matter which floor.
